FA Cup Fever grips town as Bromsgrove Sporting take on their biggest match in the Club’s history when they play Grimsby Town also being broadcast live on the BBC.

The FA Cup is memorable for creating some David versus Goliath fixtures – but none is more memorable for the people of Bromsgrove than the recent pairing of its beloved Bromsgrove Sporting versus National League’s Grimsby Town.

The two teams faced each other in the fourth qualifying round of the historic competition. A full three leagues above the Worcestershire team, Grimsby have reached the semi-finals twice and had made it past these stage 88 times out of 90.  In contrast, Sporting had never made it beyond the qualifying round before this season.  Which goes some way to explaining the sense of excitement that gripped the town in the build up to this momentous day!

For Managing Director of Champion Security Installations and Bromsgrove Sporting sponsor, Dorian Dentith the fixture was a dream come true.

“For a club that was formed by fans only 12 years ago, this is a fantastic achievement for Brendan Kelly and his team.  As club sponsors, we know how hard they have worked to get this far and, regardless of the result they should all hold their heads high!”

With the match being shown live on the BBC, it was also a fantastic opportunity to showcase the town and grow awareness of the club.

“With all 3,500 tickets selling out, there has been a real buzz around Bromsgrove as we built up to the game.  A trip to the Victoria Ground is a great family day out and we hope this extra publicity helps introduce new fans to the club going forwards.”

The high-profile fixture is another sponsorship success for Champion Security Installations, after the cricket team they sponsor, Colwall Cricket Club, celebrated winning the The Cricketer Village Cup for the first time, in a thrilling Lord’s final last year.

Unfortunately, despite the optimism of the home crowd, the game did not go Sporting’s way with the visitors showing their class from an early stage.  The 0-5 Grimsby score could have been higher, were it not for some superb saves from Bromsgrove’s Akos Onodi.

Despite the scoreline, however, Dorian believes that Bromsgrove can hold their heads high, “The town should take pride in the support they have shown for their home team. This was a special day and one that will live on for a long time in the memories of Bromsgrove Sporting fans and players.”
